Why I opened My Gym

Why I Opened My Gym

If you had asked my teenage self, he would have laughed at the thought of enjoying working out, let alone training others. He would have said, “No way in hell!”

Fast forward to a couple of years after high school when I went through fire school. It made me realize what I was capable of. Although I had dabbled in weight training in high school because of a peer, fire school truly opened my eyes and changed me.

Later, when I started my career and needed to be even better physically, a co-worker introduced me to CrossFit, which made me love exercise even more. After doing that for a couple of years, I wanted to start training people to help them experience the benefits of exercise the way I did. I ended up co-owning the gym I attended, but we sold it two years later.

After some time, I decided I wanted my own gym to continue helping people feel better and enjoy life. I started Fisher Lifting LLC in 2020—crazy, I know! I set up a plan, launched an online platform, and began reaching out to people who wanted to train. At first, I was training out of other facilities, but I realized I didn’t have the freedom I needed while using shared spaces, even though I had a good relationship with the owners.

I presented the idea of opening my own gym to my wife, explained the game plan, searched for a location, and eventually found a brick-and-mortar spot. I started building and promoting my vision to friends and family.

Ten years ago, I also started the head weightlifting team at my wife’s school, building a strong reputation with the student-athletes and the team as a whole.

Reflecting on my “why” from the previous blog post (“The Gym Sucks”), I’ve always enjoyed showing and guiding people toward discovering their capabilities and helping them improve their functional abilities for everyday life.

Now, it’s all about building my brand to reach its full potential and ensuring that everyone feels better and can use what they learn from me for the rest of their lives.

Some clients have moved or started training on their own, but I love hearing their stories about how much they can do and how they remain pain-free from old injuries.

Fisher Lifting is a place to feel better, learn to function well in life, and enjoy every day to the fullest.
